Plastic and Packaging

 

We pledged to eliminate unnecessary and problematic plastic, to use 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable plastic, and to use at least 20% recycled content across all own-branded plastic packaging by 2025.


We have made good progress towards our goal by removing plastic lamination from our branded retail and digital packaging. Using an innovative manufacturing technique, at least 40% of the packaging material is made from recycled coffee cups. Since the launch of the new packaging, we have recycled 58 million coffee cups into Burberry packaging. The resulting product, which has a beautiful, luxurious feel, is plastic-free, fully recyclable and is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).


We are making changes that will reduce the plastic footprint of our transit packaging. Our products are transported on recyclable hangers and in garment bags made from 100% recycled polyester. We continue to explore ways to move from single-use to reuse models where possible. We are currently trialling a recycling scheme for the waste generated from our logistics in the UK and Hong Kong, with hanger and poly bag take-back programmes running in each geography respectively.
