PRODUCT: RESPONSIBLE CRAFTSMANSHIP

We are committed to responsible craftsmanship and we have set ambitious targets covering raw materials, circular business models and eliminating plastic in packaging to meet our sustainability goals.

OUR TARGETS

SOURCING CERTIFIED KEY RAW MATERIALS

Our collections increasingly feature products made with certified key raw materials. Through our use of these materials and engagement with suppliers, we also stimulate wider demand across our industry for materials that are less impactful on the environment.

100% of key raw materials in our products are to be certified by 20251:

  • 100% certified organic cotton
  • 100% certified recycled nylon and polyester
  • 100% Canopy green rated viscose
  • 100% certified wool
  • 100% of our leather from certified tanneries
  • 100% of our feather and down to be maintained as responsibly sourced (Responsible Down Standard)
  • 100% of key raw materials in  our products to be traceable (to country level as a minimum)

EMBEDDING CIRCULAR BUSINESS MODELS:

The enduring quality of our products means their appeal and value are long-lasting. To increase their longevity for our customers, we committed to launch a dedicated luxury aftercare service.

In FY 21/22, we handled over 28,000 repair and replacement enquiries, ranging from Trench Coat re-proofing to repairing vintage items, and we also repaired c.20,000 items.

  • Moving forward, we will continue to evolve our aftercare offer and trial new circular business models in FY22/232

ELIMINATING PLASTIC PACKAGING:

All retail bags and gift boxes which have a beautiful, luxurious feel, are plastic-free, fully recyclable  and reusable.

  • Eliminate plastic from our consumer packaging by 20253
  • Eliminate unnecessary plastics used in transit packaging and maximise recycled content (with at least 50% of plastic to be made from fully recycled content) by 2030

All Burberry retail bags and boxes are made from a minimum of 40% recycled content, including FSC Mix certified paper. Previously, we have recycled 66 million coffee cups into Burberry packaging.

1:  Our targets cover the materials listed, where they are the main material in the product. Products manufactured and sold by Burberry only.
2: Scope: new circular business models such as aftercare, rental, resale and remaking initiatives in FY22/23.
3:  Packaging for products manufactured and sold by Burberry only.
