Burberry makes a splash this summer with a series of special events and hotel takeovers at surprise locations - and releases a special film celebrating the brand's new High Summer capsule collection.
Sun loungers, seagulls and a yacht called Check Mate: to celebrate the collection, the new film, Wish You Were Here, stars long-time friend of the house Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and British tennis player Jack Draper, alongside models Alva Claire and Babacar N’Doye, plus a few unmissable extras.
'In eager anticipation of summer, we wanted to capture one of the most enjoyable times of the year: Brits on holiday taking a moment away to be in the sun'.
Captured on 35mm film, the camera pans from sun loungers to yacht deck, ice lollies to lilos – even a random scuba diver*. It’s what Lee calls a ‘Burberry celluloid postcard – an arc of British idiosyncrasies and humour, with factor 50 on.’ Inspired, he says, by various ‘incredible yachting and holiday images,’ he found in the archive.
Underscored with the ‘Shipping Forecast’ theme tune, the new film sits in charming contrast to its soundtrack. A ‘wish you were here?’ of sorts: two weeks away in the sun, but back home it’s raining.
The cast wears the Burberry High Summer collection: a mix of check swimwear and shirt dresses. Nautical motifs, like knots fashioned into logos and sailboats, decorate silk dresses, shirts and shorts, worn with slides or espadrilles. Bags this summer are crochet-knit or woven into beautiful jacquards.
To chime with the launch of the new collection, the brand will host Burberry High Summer takeovers at two exciting locations, The Newt in Somerset, England and The Standard in Ibiza, Spain.
