The EKD

A heritage logo

The original Equestrian Knight Design (EKD) was crowd-sourced from a public competition to create a new logo for our brand circa 1901, a true testimony to Burberry's dialogue with its communities.

The EKD is imbued with symbolism – the knight represents honour, the shield protection and the lance reform.

The banner reads ‘Prorsum’ which translates from Latin to ‘Forward’. Together, the EKD represents protection and our forward looking-spirit.

An evolution

Under Daniel Lee's creative direction, the refreshed symbol remains a significant source of inspiration, with elements of the Equestrian Knight Design referenced across products, stores and our brand activations.

Legacy

The EKD is one of our most enduring brand codes.

The EKD has undergone several transformations over the years including an iteration in an oak leaf crest, reflecting the brand’s creative evolution.

Our Summer 2025 campaign, ‘It’s Always Burberry Weather: London in Love’ features a Knight in Shining Armour inspired by the Knight in our EKD.
