Burberry Animal Kingdom pop-ups

Burberry is launching a series of worldwide pop-ups to celebrate signature bags and accessories. Since joining the house, Chief Creative Officer Riccardo Tisci has reinterpreted the brand’s rich heritage, reinvigorating many of its house codes – including the Burberry animal kingdom code.

Thomas Burberry chose to represent his company with an emblem of a knight on a horse. For his family crest, he chose a unicorn. Riccardo has built on this history by developing and evolving new animal prints and motifs each season. The pop-ups feature large-scale sculptures of monkeys, gorillas and birds of paradise, inspired by Thomas and Riccardo’s recognition of the power and symbolism of animals.

Building on the house’s history of innovation and creativity Burberry has partnered with Wildlife Works to make the pop-ups carbon neutral. Working in the Congo Basin, their REDD+ offset project helps protect and restore threatened animal habitats within one of the world’s largest rainforests, facilitating the regeneration of biodiversity, allowing bonobos, elephants and other species to thrive.

The selection of products includes exclusive editions of signature Burberry leather goods, including the Pocket Bag – a structured tote referencing an archive style – and the TB Bag, which takes its name and inspiration from Thomas Burberry, with a distinctive clasp featuring his initials. The exclusive pieces also include silk scarves, card cases and jewellery.

Animal Kingdom Snap Game by Burberry

To support the global launch of its accessories pop-ups, Burberry has partnered with Snapchat to release an in-store gamified experience. By scanning the Snapcodes embedded in the pop-ups, players will be transported into the world of Burberry’s Animal Kingdom and see the animals around them come to life. Players can tap on the toucans to unlock rewards.

The Animal Kingdom Snapchat experience offers a new canvas for social storytelling, allowing Snapchatters to create their own content to share on their social channels. At a time when consumers are increasingly using their cameras to access information, Snapchatters will be able to use the Snapchat Lens to explore the locations of the pop-ups in their local area.

Pop-up Collection

Signature Burberry pieces are reimagined in exclusive new colourways and styles.

The Pocket Bag is inspired by an archive Burberry tote. The original silhouette was reinterpreted with a front pocket and contrast trims, while the canvas and leather details reference Burberry’s equestrian heritage. Exclusives include the medium Pocket Bag in canvas with black, navy and dark green leather trims. Mini Pocket Bags are available in canvas with orange and pink accents. The Mini Pocket Bag is also available in Monogram-flocked yellow and blue, red and blue, yellow and orange, and green and charcoal.

The TB Bag is crafted in Italy from 28 pieces of refined leather and finished with hand-painted edges. Exclusive new colourways include the medium in smooth navy leather, and the small in crimson and pecan. The two-tone canvas and leather TB Bag comes in small with orange and pink accents, and grey with navy. The TB Bag in quilted Monogram leather is available in small in pale green with white accents, orange and brown, with a medium available in sesame. They all have adjustable gold chain straps. The woven leather TB Bag, which references our iconic check, is available in small in pink, navy, sand and orange, and in medium in sage green and black. The TB Bag with flocked Monograms will be available in medium in yellow and blue, green and charcoal, and in small in red and blue, and yellow and orange.

Softly structured bucket bags, punctuated with the Thomas Burberry Monogram, are available in blush pink and natural with orange accents.

Notes for Editors

Wildlife Works

  • Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, the initiative focuses on agroforesty, sustainable farming and conservation techniques to relieve deforestation.

Carbon Neutral Targets and Progress

  • Burberry has a goal to be carbon neutral in its own operational energy use by 2022 and to obtain 100 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources in the same timeframe. Underpinning this target are two climate goals approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTI), to reduce absolute scope one and two greenhouse gas emissions by 95 per cent by 2022 and absolute scope three greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 (all from a 2016 base year). These targets are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement. Burberry is currently carbon neutral in its own operational energy use across 85 per cent of its sites globally.
  • In February 2020, Burberry announced the launch of a Regeneration Fund to support a portfolio of carbon offsetting and insetting projects to directly tackle the environmental impact of Burberry’s operations. Insetting works at farm level to improve carbon capture in soils, improve watershed and soil health, reduce dryland salinity and promote biodiverse habitats.
