Burberry and The Prince’s Trust Women Supporting Women initiative are celebrating International Women’s Day by championing the charity’s Change a Girl’s Life campaign. One pound from every item sold globally on Sunday March 8th will help young women across the UK access resources and support to build a brighter future.
Through the Women Supporting Women initiative many young women can access confidence-building workshops and personal development courses, as well as the Get Hired programme which open doors to life-changing opportunities with potential employers. Young female entrepreneurs can also find the resources they need to help them build a business to support themselves and their families.
A longstanding partner of the Prince’s Trust, Burberry has worked with The Trust’s Women Supporting Women community since last summer, with employees supporting the organisation through internally-led fundraising, mentoring schemes and participation in the biggest active fundraising event the charity hosts annually, the Palace to Palace cycle event.
The Change a Girl’s Life campaign raises funds to ensure that The Prince’s Trust can be there for more young women who need a helping hand. Despite being just over a year old, over 900 women have already been supported through Trust programmes to move into work, education or training.
Julie Brown, Chief Financial and Operating Officer, Burberry said: “The Women Supporting Women community does amazing work to ensure young women have the support and opportunity to achieve their potential. At Burberry, we’re proud of our growing partnership and to be making this donation which will support numerous educational and professional resources that truly make a difference, helping people overcome challenges and shape their future in a positive way.”
Tara Leathers, UK Deputy Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust, added: “At The Prince’s Trust we passionately believe that all young women deserve the chance to succeed, no matter what their life circumstances or life events. We are humbled and delighted that fantastic, much-loved brands have come together this International Women’s Day to support young women, and the #ChangeAGirlsLife Campaign for our Women Supporting Women initiative. Working together with those who share an ambition for young women will help unlock the full potential of the next generation.”
Burberry’s partnership with The Prince’s Trust is part of its overall commitment to supporting communities and championing organisations which are working toward a more inclusive environment where everyone can succeed.
Youth charity The Prince’s Trust helps young people to develop the confidence and skills they need to realise their ambitions, so that they can live, learn and earn. Founded by The Prince of Wales in 1976, the charity supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed, struggling at school and at risk of exclusion.
Many of the young people helped by The Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, or have been in trouble with the law. The programmes offered by the charity give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work. Three in four young people supported by The Prince’s Trust move into work, education or training.
The Trust has helped over 950,000 young people to date and supports over 100 more each day.
